Baladi is an Arabic term meaning "local" or "native." It evokes a deep sense of nostalgia and longing among refugees and immigrants for their village roots, reflecting the grief of losing connection to lands and traditions. Yet this grief is transformed into living memory through food, art, crafts, land rituals, music, and community practices in the diaspora.

Baladi Creative is an interdisciplinary design and research platform led by Lama Hasan. Rooted in the exploration of home and belonging in a world increasingly shaped by the upheavals of war and climate change, Lama collaborates with artisans, researchers, designers, and communities to elevate issues of agricultural heritage, ancestral knowledge, and cultural resilience. Through storytelling, design, and experimental projects, Baladi Creative explores how individuals and communities  can reclaim their narratives and reimagine home in creative, resilient ways.

Baladi Creative seeks to engage with spaces of reflection and dialogue, operating at the intersection of design, empathy, and activism.
